STEN Held Municipal Utility Workshop Presentation

Featuring the National Western Center

National Western Center

Sewer Thermal Energy Network   (STEN) recently held a membership workshop presentation on August 21st featuring the National Western Center as presented by Leslie Fangman. The National Western Center is a mission-driven sustainable development in Denver, Colorado. Their vision is to become an urban hub for food and ag discovery in the heart of the American west. They have created a low carbon, resilient campus that includes energy efficient buildings with district heating and cooling using wastewater heat recovery.

The workshop was full of practical experience based advice and insight. The attendees were able to ask questions and compare concerns. One of the most significant findings regarding this sewer derived heating and cooling loop was that for a significant portion of the year, there is enough heating need, simultaneous with the cooling need, to allow the heat loop to work as a source for both in what Leslie called a “null” condition. That is, no additional outside heating or cooling was supplied to the loop, it all came for the building within the loop. STEN member Saul Kinter declared that the " workshop was very good."
